In P4, Yu Narukami was the ultimate harem Gary Stu. You mean mgs2 is better because its 5 minute long verbal vomiting themes by main antagonist of the game involves internet? Its basically a weak version of what MGS2 already did. The P4 boss came out of nowhere and had to verbally vomit out the themes they were going for (self-deception and gossip.) What is your point? All persona games since 3 have haremĪnd mythology since first MT game, or are you seriously complaining about Mythology in SMT franchise(franchise based around various mythologies?) P5 is a harem vacation with a gnostic fairy tale picaresque fiction on the side. P4 was a harem vacation with a shinto fairy tale murder mystery on the side. In P4, the characters bonded in wacky hijinks, beach dates, magically learning to play instruments with the power of friendship, etc. P5 is definitely more mature than P4, in all senses of the word. The last boss is built from the ground up at the very beginning, from how Joker and many characters suffered from doing the right thing, to how the Palace Owners were incapable of satisfaction, to how Shido's political party nearly conquered Japan despite his change-of-heart and Japan didn't give a shit. Morgana doesn't count because he's the "Teddie" of the group. In P5, the two characters who grow the most without Joker's help are Ryuji and Makoto. Nobody grew, made decisions, or did things without him breathing down their necks. He was the center of the universe, and the only characters who had a social circle outside of him were Chie and Yukiko. The P4 boss came out of nowhere and had to verbally vomit out the themes they were going for (self-deception and gossip.) Those themes would have been better if P4 didn't work so hard to tiptoe around the Internet, limiting its themes to small-town gossip and television. P5's social commentary on Japan's problems, (and really, people in general) is timely. P5 outclassed in ways I didn't think Atlus was capable of. 5 just hits different to me but again that may just be the fact that it’s too early in the game for me to get a feel for it. You feel the strength behind the attacks your persona uses and the fierceness of all out attacks. You feel the character motivation early on. 5 throws you into the action quick and gives you high stakes. My thoughts: I’m early in 4 and adjusting to the changes between gameplay (so take what I’m about to say with a grain of salt) BUT I have found 4 to be slower, less stylish, and less endearing than 5 so far. So please don’t talk about how Royal is better than vanilla 4 and golden is better than royal. Also I’m talking about the games over all, including royal and golden. I realize this question on this page will give me biased results and I plan on asking this question again on the general persona subreddit but I wanted to hear your thoughts on which is the better game and why? Please avoid spoilers especially regarding P4. I’m in the opening hours of Persona 4 (specifically in the first dungeon) after finally beating and declaring persona 5 to be my favorite game of all time.
